Club notes - 17 February 2020

What an exciting Munster Indoor Championships it was for St. Brendan's A.C. athletes!
First up on Saturday was Aoibhinn O'Driscoll at the U9-U11 Juveniles. She came through the heats & semis ahead of her competitors. The final was a very exciting & competitive race with Aoibhinn tying for first place on the line. Aoibhinn placed third in the long jump after count back. Not a bad result to come away with at her first Munster Indoors!
Not to be outdone the Masters came out in flying form on Sunday. Between six of them (5 males & 1 female) they brought home 19 medals, all of them now Munster medalists across different events.
David Kissane (O65) was in action on Saturday where he won gold in the 3K race walk. He kept that competitive spirit in action on Sunday, where he became Munster champion again in the 200m. Then he achieved a double silver in the 400m & shot putt.
Ursula Barrett (O40) then jumped out of her skin to get a new Munster Indoor Championship record & first place with 4.80m.

She also came second in 60m sprint with a new PB of 8.68 & second in the 200m.

Artur Nowak (O45) is the new Munster champion in the Long Lump and the High Jump. He kept up the great form & placed second in the shot putt too. Derek McCarthy (O40) was the clear winner & new Munster champion in the high jump with a clearance of 1.60m, equal Munster Indoor record in his age category.  He too went on to place second in the shot putt and Weight for Distance event. David Butler (O35) was second in the shot putt and second in Weight for Distance. This was his first time competing in this event at the Masters Indoors. Finbarr Collins (O35) placed third in his 1500m. Determined not to be outdone by the others Finbarr & David Butler went on to take part in the relay with Derek & Artur. What a successful quartet they proved to be, they placed first in the Masters relay!! ðŸ¥‡
Cathy & Declan were a great support to the athletes.
