St Brendan's AC NOTES FOR MONDAY, APRIL 22, 2019
St.Brendan's AC 4 Mile FUN RUN: Sunday, 21 April
The St Brendan’s AC Fun Runs in conjunction with the Maurice Collins Vintage Day in Ardfert were held in great weather on Sunday. The runs were in aid of the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus and Down Syndrome Kerry. The sum raised will be published during the coming week and the club thanks all who took part as well as all the stewards, Lee Strand for protein milk, Lerrig Stores for water and Tralee Triathlon Club for timing clock. Pádraig Regan was 3rd in the men's 4 miles while Lilly Nowak won the girls U16 2 mile run with Matthew O'Sullivan, Aaron Horgan, Kevin Horgan and Conor O'Sullivan making top 4 in the boys U16 2 mile run. RUN BALLYBUNION, Saturday 20 April
Well done to Aaron Horgan who won the boys run in Ballybunion on Saturday ahead of hundreds of competitors. Well done to Declan Sheehan who ran 52 mins 41 secs for the 10K there and Margaret Carlin who had fantastic performances timing 1 hour 49 mins for the half marathon on a hilly course.

VALENTIA HALF MARATHON: Saturday 20 April
Artur Nowak, finished 19th in Half Marathon on Valentia Island with time 1:42:50.


The Annual Jack O Keeffe Festival of Road Races: Monday, 22 April
Hosted by Gneeveguilla A.C. in Kiskeam, Co. Cork festival of running. St.Brendan's AC duo of Kevin and Aaron Horgan place first in U11 and U13.

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The focus now turns to day 1 of the county juvenile track and field championships which will be held on Sunday, May 5th in An Ríocht track in Castleisland. All registered athletes who are in the championship age-groups are requested to be available on this most important day for the club. The following day the county senior, junior and masters championships will be held at the same venue and again all athletes in these categories are asked to be available.
PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS
Then the primary school sports for the West North Kerry area will be held on Wednesday evening, May 22nd in An Fearann. The programme of events will be sent to schools next week. Qualifiers will proceed to the county primary schools championships on Wednesday, June 12th in An Ríocht.

TRAINING DETAILS
Training details for the week:
Mon: 7-8pm Throws & Jumps in An Fearann for U12, juniors and masters
Wed: An Ríocht bus leaving Ardfert 6.30pm returning 9pm all in preparation for the upcoming co championships
Thurs: Fit4Life training in Ardfert from the graveyard carpark at 7pm

On Friday, 12 April,  five St Brendan’s AC athletes received county star awards in Kenmare at the Kerry Athletics Awards Night. 

Lilly Nowak, Tom O’Flaherty, Aaron Malik, Darragh Courtney and Ursula Barrett were honoured for their outstanding achievements over last year.

On Sunday, 14 April, Zach Walshe had an outstanding run in the Kingdom Come 5K in Castleisland as he won the primary schools section in a time of 19 mins 33 seconds, an incredible performance indeed. David Kissane came second in the O60 5K in 24 mins 12 secs and a host of athletes had good times in both the 5K and 10 miles, including Pádraig Regan clocking 67 mins 47 secs for the 10 miles and Gerald Carroll coming home close behind in 70 mins 27 secs. Well done to Anne McGlynn who won the women's 050 race with a brilliant performance in a time of 77 mins.

Well done to Conor O’Sullivan who had a brilliant 3rd place in the turbo javelin at the Gneeveguilla Open Sports and also to Ella O’Sullivan who was in the medals in her sprint.

Easter Sunday is the big day for road runners as the St Brendan’s AC 4 Mile Fun Run in conjunction with the Maurice Collins Vintage Day takes place at Ardfert Quarry at 10 am. There is also a 2 mile fun run for U16s. Both races start near the Quarry and all proceeds go to the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus and Down Syndrome Kerry. Cost of entry is 10 euro for the 4 miler and 5 euro for the U16 2 mile run. Entries are on the day from 9am on. Details from Irene on 087 7985557.

The following are the training arrangements for the weeks ahead: Mondays at An Fearann from 7-8pm for U12 to masters for throws and jumps; on this Wednesday the club will travel to An Ríocht, Castleisland, preparing for the county championships which will take place May 5th & 12th. Bus leaving Ardfert medical centre at 6.45pm returning 9pm. Cost €2. Please text club secretary Irene to confirm your child’s place on the bus. The adults are in action on Thursdays in Ardfert, meeting at the graveyard carpark at 7pm.


Important fixtures coming up are the St Brendan’s AC 4 Mile Fun Run in conjunction with the Maurice Collins Vintage Day on Easter Sunday and then the county juvenile championships will be staged on the 5th and 12th May. The junior/senior/masters county championships are on Monday 6th May.

St Brendan's AC Club Sunday Notes for April 7th, 2019

St Brendan’s AC had a great day out at the Gneeveguilla Open Sports in An Ríocht track on Sunday, 7 April in the sun. The club won a variety of prizes in a number of events at a very well-organised meeting and among the winners was Eoin O’Flaherty who won the U13 80m and long jump and was a member of the U14 relay team who won the relay. He also got a second in the 600m. Aaron Horgan won the U13 600m and was second in the 80m and was also a member of the winning U14 relay team. Other athletes on the podium were Conor O'Sullivan, Ella O'Sullivan, Sophie Malik, Jamie Fahy, Ben O’Connor, Eoin Malik, Taylor Fahy, Kevin Horgan and Darragh O’Flaherty while a host of others made it into finals and semi-finals. Well done to all.

Well done to club athlete Aaron Horgan who was awarded a Ballyheigue Youth Award for his outstanding success in cross country running yesterday. Aaron won silver in the U13 Community Games 1200m earlier this morning and will now represent Kerry in the National Community Games Cross Country final in UL in May. Aaron was a member of the St Brendan’s U14 relay team who won gold at the Gneeveguilla Open Sports this afternoon. Now that’s a good weekend!

This coming Friday night is a big occasion for the club at county level as the Kerry Athletics Awards Night is being hosted by Kenmare. A number of the club’s athletes have been nominated for honours for achievements during the past season and winners will be revealed on the night.
The following are the training arrangements for the weeks ahead: Mondays at An Fearann from 7-8pm for U12 to masters for throws and jumps; this Tuesday the adult Fit4Life training concludes in Ardfert Community Centre and a big turn-out is expected. On Wednesday juvenile outdoor training continues at An Fearann from 6.30 to 8pm and don’t forget to bring warm gear and water, while the adults are in action again on Thursdays in Tralee Marina at 7pm.

Last week Aaron Malik won a silver medal in Athlone at the AAI  National Indoor Championships. Aaron got his medal in the U19 60m hurdles with a new pb of 9.28secs.
