Well done to all St Brendan’s AC athletes who participated in a variety of road races and parkruns over the Christmas week.

News of the new year training will be announced shortly.
The 2020 athletics year begins this Sunday, January 5th in Nenagh, Co Tipperary with the staging of the Munster juvenile indoor multi-events. A number of St Brendan’s AC athletes will be involved. Then a club-hosted masters indoor games is due to be decided later. 
Saturday January 18th sees the annual St Brendan’s AC primary schools indoor games being staged in Causeway from 2-5pm. New for these games will be an inter-school relay which should attract a big entry.
Then on Sunday January 19th the Munster indoor juvenile relays and some field events will be held in Nenagh. After that, the St Brendan’s AC expanded awards night will be held in Banna Beach Hotel on Saturday, January 24th starting at 6.30pm.

Juveniles U9-U11 and masters should note that the Munster indoor championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 15th and 16th in Nenagh.

This coming Sunday is a big day for Ben O’Connor (St Brendan’s AC) as he has been selected on the Kerry U11 cross country team for the All Ireland uneven-age championships in Co Meath. Ben has been running very well all through the year and will enjoy the honour of representing club and county in the national championships.
St Brendan's AC had the 2 Davids at the Malahide parkrun in Dublin on Saturday, 7th December.


Training:
This is the second last week of training before Christmas break and is as follows.
Tuesday: Ardfert Community Centre, 7-8pm, U12s+, strength & conditioning, €2 and bring water. Non-club members are welcome.
Also on Tuesday: 8-9pm Fit4Life adults training, €3 members, €5 non-members and all are welcome.
Wednesday: Younger juveniles, Ardfert Community Centre, 6.30-8pm, €2 and bring water
Ardfert Sportsfield, older juveniles, 6.45-7.45pm, €2 and bring water
Thurs: Adult speed session, The Marina, Tralee 7pm

Another St.Brendan's AC athlete to travel was Declan Sheehan who took part in Waterford Half Marathon and finish the race in1h 52min, and a new PB. Full results HERE.

St Brendan's AC Notes,
Monday, 2nd December 2019

Congratulations to Zach Walshe, St Brendan’s AC who came 6th in the U13 Munster B cross country championships in Tipperary on Sunday. Zach ran a great race in a very large field of athletes over testing terrain and held his position from start to finish.

Farranfore MV AC 5K 2019 - INFO

One of the oldest road races in Ireland takes place every St. Stephen's day. It has been run since 1961 along the same route. Now in its 58th year, is run from Farranfore to Firies and back to the finish in Farranfore.
Start & Finish is at the Kerry Mill in Farranfore, running close to the cross-roads in Firies and returning via the same route. Road closed to traffic so you can enjoy the day without having to worry about any traffic concerns.
The 5K Timed Race is open to all those aged 13 years and over on race day. (Race permit rules). Due to popular demand we have added a 2K Family Fun Run / Walk to ensure the whole family can enjoy the day. This promises to be a really exciting morning of running catering for all, runners and families alike.
Registration & Race Number pick up will be at the Sports Hall Farranfore (V93 KP27) from 10:30am to 11:30am

2K Family Run/Walk: 11:45am (Untimed, noncompetitive- just for fun!)

5K Road Race: 12:15pm (Timed)

Club notes - Monday, 04 November 2019

St Brendan’s AC had a good day at the Kerry Athletics masters and juvenile B cross country championships in Killarney on Sunday. In the masters’ races, Finbarr Collins had a super win in the O35 category in his first county cross country while Peter Jackson came second in the same category.

Ann McGlynn ran brilliantly also in the women’s race. In the O65 men’s championships, Willie O’Riordan won the gold with silver going to David Kissane and bronze to Pat Sheehy who ran an inspiring race. The team gold went to St Brendan in this category. St Brendan’s had a strong presence in all club categories with Pádraig Regan, Ger Carroll, Artur Nowak, David Butler and John Culloty all making an impact as we await team results.

In the juvenile races, Matthew O’Sullivan and Darragh O’Flaherty won medals in their races while Tom O'Flaherty got a bronze in his U14 event. Good performances were displayed by Lilly Nowak and Caoimhe O’Flaherty in their different categories.

St Brendan’s AC hosted the event and the club thanks all who helped to make the occasion a success.
Congratulations are also due to Aaron Malik (St Brendan’s AC and Mercy Mounthawk) who had a great day at the schools combined events with a bronze medal performance, continuing an outstanding year for Aaron.

Well done to the St Brendan’s AC competitors who were involved in the Munster even age cross country championships in Limerick racecourse on Sunday. Ben O’Connor got a Munster medal, coming in 11th in the 155 strong field in the U10 race. Matthew O’Sullivan ran well in the U12 race in testing conditions while Aaron Horgan competed with strength in the U14 championships in another huge field of competitors.
A big contingent of the club’s adults will be participating in the Dublin marathon on this coming Sunday and good luck to all. This is a good run-out before the county masters cross country a week later!

Munster Indoor Schools Combined Events Championships

Aaron Malik (Mercy Mount Hawk) won bronze medal in the schools combined events. It all came down to his last event, the 800m where he ran brilliantly to move from 5th overall to 3rd to finish on 2262pts.

St Brendan’s AC Notes Sunday October 13th, 2019

Well done to Eimear O’Sullivan (St Brendan’s AC) who won the Kerry Athletics county junior cross country championship title in Firies on Sunday. Eimear was competing at junior cross country level for the first time and was very impressive over a testing course. That is her third weekend in a row finishing in a medal position at county level.














AGM

The club AGM was held on Friday night last in Cúl Mhuire in Ardfert. A lager attendance than previous years was present and there wide-ranging discussions on a number of topics. The chairman Shaz Malik stated in his report that the club had a very good year with the 10th anniversary Banna Run being the highlight with a record number of entries. Treasurer Moira Horgan presented an excellent report which showed that the club is in a healthy financial position. Head coach Orla Fitzgerald listed the medal and participation success of the juveniles and adults from county to national level while registrations were high in all categories. One of the topics discussed on the night was the necessity for more parental assistance at training sessions and parents will be contacted about this shortly. The club thanked everyone who had helped in any way over the past year to ensure that a full programme of events and services was given to the athletes.

SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY
The opening event on the cross country calendar for St Brendan’s AC is the primary schools cross country on Wednesday, September 25th in An Fearann, Ardfert at 6pm. All primary schools in the St Brendan’s AC area are invited to attend and there will be races for 1st to 6th classes.
Juvenile training at 6.30 for cross country on Wednesdays in An Fearann.

Club Notes - Monday, 15 July 2019

Preparations are now at an advanced stage for the 10th Anniversary Banna Run on Sunday, August 4th. A few kilometre signs are available for sponsors at a cost of 60 euro and these will be used on the day of the race as well as on social media. The club wishes to thank the local businesses who have already sponsored the signs. There will be the anniversary 10K, a 5K fun run and an U16 2K run.

On 13 July, Artur Nowak was competing in Waterville at HARDMAN Middle Distance Triathlon (1.9km swim, 93km cycle, 21.1km run) finishing in 28th place.

St Brendan’s AC juvenile athletes had a good day at the Munster B athletics championships in Ennis on Sunday last. Ben O’Connor got a silver medal in the U10 500m while Jamie Fahy collected 2 bronze medals in the U9 60m and turbo javelin. Conor O’Sullivan had a great start to his long jump career when getting a 4th place in the U10 long jump, Matthew O’Sullivan had some great performances in the U12 sprint, 600m and long jump and Kevin Horgan ran his usual gritty race in the U11 600m when coming close to the medals.
KILMOYLEY MILER
Well done to St Brendan's AC athletes who ran in the Kilmoyley Miler - 10k and 5k races on Sunday morning. Running were juveniles Zach Walshe (congratulations, winner u16, 5k), Rian Kenny O Sullivan, Kelly O Regan, Molly Gaynor, Aoibhinn O’Driscoll; masters - Maggie Carlin, Irene Butler, Cathy Flynn, Ann McGlynn, Catherine Burke, Moira Horgan, David Butler, Denis Foley, Declan Sheehan, Pádraig Regan, Finbarr Collins and Joe Bunyan.
A host of the club’s athletes ran in the parkruns on Saturday and Sunday in the good weather.

ST BRENDAN'S AC  NOTES FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 23rd, 2019
St Brendan’s AC athletes had a busy weekend on a number of fronts at the weekend.
Aaron Malik had outstanding performances at the national junior decathlon championships in the Morton Stadium in Santry over 2 days, winning the gold medal with 5 pbs in the 10 events. These were his performances: 100m in 12.2 secs (pb); long jump with 6.05m (pb); shot with 9.63m; high jump with 1.63m; 400m in 56.19 secs; 110m hurdles in 17.53secs (pb); discus with 33.62m; pole vault with 3.10m (pb); javelin with 35.83m (pb); 1500m in 8-23.05. Aaron accumulated 4616 points in all, a superb achievement.

Also in action in Santry in the Tailteann Games 1500m was Eimear O’Sullivan (representing Munster and Pres Tralee) and Eimear clocked 5-17.69 in that 1500m.

Aoibhinn O’Driscoll, representing Ardfert Kilmoyley, had an outstanding weekend at the Kerry Community Games athletics finals and won the U10 200m on Sunday afternoon with a superb performance. Also in the medals representing Ardfert Kilmoyley were Eoin O’Flaherty who came 2nd in the U14 hurdles, Eoin Malik who was 3rd in the U12 ball throw and Molly Gaynor who was 4th in the U8 60m. Matthew O’Sullivan (Ballyheigue Community Games) was 3rd in the U12 200m and 3rd in the long puck. The following were the club members who were representing their various areas in the county finals: Ardfert/Kilmoyley - Molly Gaynor, Kelly Regan, Ruby Wallace, Conor O Sullivan, Madison O’Connor, Eoin Malik, Rachel Lennon, Caoimhe O’Flaherty, Aoibhinn O’Driscoll, Muireann Lawlor, Eoin O Flaherty, Darragh O’Flaherty, Tom O’Flaherty and Brody Leen.

Artur Nowak competed in the Kerry 50K Ultra run on Saturday and finished second overall in this incredible event which passed through Ardfert.

Ursula Barrett and David Kissane represented St Brendan’s AC at a meeting of Kerry masters in Farranfore on Monday last to discuss the development of women’s and men’s masters’ athletics in the county.
Training details:
Monday: 7pm Masters meet Kilmoyley Community Centre
Wednesday: 6.30-8pm final session for juvenile training this season. Bring €2 & water. Training will resume in September for the cross country season.
Thursday: 7pm Masters, meet at Banna Sea Rescue boathouse.
Saturday: 9am Masters distance run. Meet at Ardfert Medical Centre at 9am.

Club Notes - Monday, 17 June 2019

St Brendan’s AC had 7 athletes involved in the final weekend of the Munster juvenile athletics championships in Castleisland over Saturday and Sunday.

Darragh Courtney won gold in the U19 high jump in the rain while Aaron Malik won silver in the U19 high jump and bronze in the discus. Eimear O’Sullivan had 2 distance races over the 2 days, winning a bronze in the U17 3000m on Saturday and had a strong run in the 1500m on Sunday. Well done to the other club athletes who did their best in top-class competitions: Tom O’Flaherty, Eoin O’Flaherty, Eoin Malik and Darragh O’Flaherty.

Well done to all the club athletes who were involved in the Half on the Head runs in Ballyheigue on Saturday with good times and performances recorded by all. Members are reminded that the Kilmoyley “Miler” Family Fun Run and Walk in aid of Tidy Towns Kilmoyley will be held on Sunday, June 30th at 11am.
Good luck to all competitors in the Community Games athletics finals this weekend.
The club is now prepping for the 10th anniversary Banna Run on August 4th at 9.30am and the usual 10K and 5K runs will be on the programme but a new U16 2K has been added. There is a new elegant Casement medal for all finishers in the adult runs and for the first 3 boys and girls U16. There is a special medal for all U16 finishers.
