Club notes - Sunday, 24 March 2019

St Brendan’s AC came 3rd in the best overall club points at the Kerry Sportshall Development Games in Milltown on Saturday 24 March 2019. There were 2 relay wins as well as a number of great individual performances on the day, including Jessica Leen who won 3 gold medals and one silver. The club’s team of 24 athletes are to be congratulated on their achievements. The following are the medal details:

On Sunday the club was represented by a large number of athletes in the Ballyheigue Family Resource road races and prominent was Cathy Flynn who got 3rd place in the women’s 5k, Pádraig Regan and Ger O’Carroll who had very good times on the testing course. Many more took part in parkruns in Tralee, Inch and Listowel where Alex O'Carroll who had a brilliant PB.

Our thanks to Tesco, The Square, Tralee for their donation from the Tesco Community Fund. 

Upcoming events: training continues on Wednesdays for juveniles from 6.30 – 8pm and Monday training is on the way shortly. On Tuesdays the adults have training in Ardfert Community Centre while there is hill training for adults in Tralee Marina on Thursdays.
The national juvenile indoor championships will be staged in Athlone on this Saturday and Sunday and the club will be represented by a number of athletes.

Club notes - Monday March 18th, 2019

St Brendan’s AC had a big group at the Causeway St Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday and the club thanks the parade committee for the kind invitation. Thanks to all the athletes, officials and parents who were involved on the occasion.

On Saturday, the club had a number of athletes involved in the Tralee half marathon and 10k runs in windy and wet conditions. Peter Jackson had a good time with a 1:30:49 time and the following were the other performances: Pádraig Regan 1:32:17; Artur Nowak 1:38:51; David Butler 1:43:45; Maggie Carlin 1:43:57 and Cathy Flynn 1:58:15. Irene Butler ran 1:09:05 for the 10K race and Brian Lucid ran 1:02:28 in the same event.

The big event this coming Saturday, March 23rd is the Kerry Indoor development Games in Milltown at 11am for U9-U12. Details of this event will be made known at training this Wednesday evening.
Juvenile indoor training continues this Wednesday evening from 6.30-8pm in Ardfert Community Centre.
Adult training continues on Tuesday nights from 8-9pm in Ardfert Community Centre and non-members are welcome. There is hill training in Tralee Marina at 7pm on Thursdays for adult club members.

Club Notes for Sunday, March 3rd, 2019



Well done to David Butler who clocked a good 29 mins 3 secs for the Munster masters O35 4 mile road championship in Tipperary on Sunday in very testing conditions.

Also in action at the weekend was Cathy Flynn who timed a good 4 hours 41 minutes for the Galway marathon in Kinvara. 
Elsewhere, three of the club coaches, Moira Horgan, David Butler and Shaz Malik completed day 1 of the level 1 coaching course in Tralee. Zach Walshe got his cert for his 150th parkrun in Tralee where 12 St Brendan’s AC juniors took part on Sunday. A number of club athletes also participated on Saturday in the adult parkrun in Tralee.

This coming Sunday the national masters indoor championships will be staged in Athlone. Among those in action will be treble Munster indoor champion Ursula Barrett in the O40 60m, 200m and long jump, David Butler in the middle distance events and shot, Finbarr Collins in the 1500m, Martin Butler in the shot and middle distance events and David Kissane in the walk, 200m, 400m and shot.

Training continues on Tuesday nights in Ardfert Community Centre with strength and conditioning adult sessions from 8pm till 9pm and non-club members are very welcome. On Wednesdays, training for all juveniles takes place in the Community Centre from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Upcoming events include the Kerry Sportshall Games on Saturday March 23rd in Milltown for U9s to U12s who didn’t won individual championship medal last year. 

Also keep in mind the Gneeveguilla AC open sports on April 4th in Castleisland. These open sports should be supported to keep the tradition alive in Kerry, you don't have to be club member to take part.
The all Ireland schools cross country take place on Saturday, 9 March 2019.
