ST. BRENDAN'S ATHLETES IN COMMUNITY GAMES

ARDFERT/KILMOYLEY COMMUNITY GAMES 2013

Congratulations to the many St. Brendan's athletes who competed in the Ardfert/Kilmoyley community games.  Here is how they got on over the weekend.

 The county community games finals took place over the weekend of the 22^nd & 23^rd June 2013.  What a great weekend for Ardfert/Kilmoyley community games!  Due to the bad weather on Saturday the numbers were few but all who took part did very well.  Thank you to the parents who came to An Ríocht in Castleisland waiting to support the children in the community who took part in many events including both track & field.  There were many who made it out of the heats to quarter final stages on Saturday with many getting qualifying for semi-finals & finals on Sunday.  Thankfully the weather was more favourable on Sunday & worked to the advantage of Ardfert/Kilmoyley children. 

First up was Darragh Courtney in the boy’s u14 hurdles, a great race by Darragh & he won the first gold of the weekend by a good 10mtrs.  Next up was the mixed relay u13 who came second to a strong Kenmare team who look very good for the Nationals in Athlone. The team consisted of Ciara McCarthy, Darragh Lowth, Conágh Fitzgerald & Darragh Courtney.   Next was the girls u12 600m & it was a great race there was a great battle on the home straight with Ciara McCarthy fighting all the way to the line with a Rock St. Caherslee competitor & with fierce determination Ciara won the second gold of the weekend!  After that Darragh Lowth competed in the u14 boys 800m, he started off leading from the front & won the race well.  Next were the sprint finals, first up was Ronan Pearce who had a great weekend in the boys u10 200m with a final place of third.  Sadbh Lowth came second in the girl’s u10 100m in a thrilling race.  Finally, Iarla Courtney was in the boy’s u16 100m in what was a closely contested race where there was nothing in it between the top three boys.  Iarla came third in a thrilling final!

Overall Ardfert/Kilmoyley brought home three gold’s, two silver & two bronze. Best of luck to Darragh, Ciara & Darragh in Athlone at the National finals on the weekend of 16^th-18^th August 2013!!
