28 February 2013 is the final date for entry to Tralee Marathon - Half (13.1m) and Full (26.2m). You can still register on-line.
Every Saturday and Sunday local roads between Tralee, Ardfert, Fenit and Spa are full of local runners with so many shades of hi-viz yellow, orange and red tops and jackets.

If You like some motivation, you may find it in this video:

Few other tips and running etiquette from www.runaddicts.net

The no-no’s of running

  • Lining up at the front of the race and then running slower than a baby can crawl.
  • Abruptly stopping during a race. Move to the side first!
  • Running without recovery days, and then complaining about getting injured.
  • Not returning greetings or simple nods when passing another runner.
  • Don’t bring your untrained dog to a race.
  • “I just started running. Can I run a marathon in 6 weeks?”
  • If you must spit or blow your nose please do so at the back of the pack.
  • Runners, don’t run WITH traffic. (Are you crazy?)
  • Don’t be a jerk when talking about your pace.
  • Cutting other runners off & slowing down.
  • Throwing drinks at the feet of the runners behind you.
Act like a grown-up and throw it in the bin a few paces down the road.
  • Not paying attention to traffic or signals: It makes us all look bad.
  • Ignoring injuries and trying to ‘run through’ them.
  • If you use someone’s mp3-player / gps-tracker, recharge the batteries!
  • Don’t group-hog the entire road/trail width! Let others pass.
  • Being unaware of your surroundings. Does your music have to be that loud? Really?
  • Stopping IMMEDIATELY after the finish line. Keep going a few meters to get out of the way.
  • Don’t give advice without being asked. This holds true to most sports.
  • Bitching about what’s better: Minimal, barefoot or simple running shoes.
Choose your own poison and enjoy yourself.
  • Not thanking the volunteers.
  • If you must, then at least look before you spit.
  • Don’t be an elitist *insert inappropriate word*. Whether people run 2 miles or 50 miles a week, they’re runners.
  • If the track is very busy, don’t run upstream.
  • If you have a bad case of the tummy demons, it’s nice to move to the back of the line as to not poison the rest of the group behind you.
  • Play nice. Follow the track rules, and don’t be arrogant when someone points out those rules. Crowded tracks need a set of standards to avoid injuries.
  • Don’t cheat races.
  • Inside lanes on tracks are for fast runners.
  • Don’t literally push people forward when the starting gun has fired.
  • Don’t complain about the workout of your group / partner.
  • If running with someone slower, don’t pressure them to speed up

Wild West Run 2013

It was a busy weekend on roads and off-roads in Kerry. The longest race was taking place around Kenmare - WILD WEST RUN 2013. This year it was a 15miles race starting on  the road from Mols Gap, along Black Valley, with terrain changing from road to trail at Lord Brandon's Cottage. A bit of a climb to Ladies View and back on the trail all the way to Kenmare on the Old Kenmare Road.
A top class event with "superb course with breath-taking views" as described by one of 120 participants with good weather all day.

For the 3rd year in a row, James Doran from An Riocht AC won in time of 1:38:21. Simon Mangan took second spot (1:42:45) from his brother Stephen (1:42:46) making 1,2 and 3 for Kerry runners.
In the Ladies section: 1.Fiona Devine 1:57:39, 2.Breeda Lynch 1:59:21, 3.Mary Dawson 2:01:44
St.Brendan's AC had Artur Nowak finishing in 50th position in time of 2:14:30.

Ballyheigue 10K By The Bay 2013

A new record of over 150 participants took part in this annual fundraising event for Ballyheigue Family Resource Centre.
There was a choice of 10km Race or 5km fun run/walk.
St.Brendan's AC was well represented in both 10K and 5K and it's good to see our Fit4Life group members taking on another challenge, using training and experience gained over the last few months.
For our more experienced runners it was another training run in preparation for Tralee Half & Full Marathon 2013 in 3 weeks time.
Ann McGlynn had a very busy weekend when competing on Saturday in Gneeveguilla 5K series run and taking on the more challenging (hilly) 10K in Ballyheigue. This route is more similar to Tralee Half Marathon which she will be
doing and training must be going well as she recorded a finish time 2min 30sec faster than last year for the same race.

Full Marathon hopeful, Pat Sheehy is also having a good season so far, finishing 1min faster from last years result.
