St Brendan’s AC had a busy weekend on a number of fronts.
In the Munster indoor championships on days 2 and 3 in Nenagh, Eimear O’Sullivan won a silver medal in the U17 1500m while Aaron Malik likewise got a silver in the U19 60m hurdles. Eoin Malik had a new personal best in the U12 high jump with a 1.15m clearance.
In the Kerry Athletics county 5k road championships in Kenmare, the club had 5 master athletes involved and gold medals were won by Ursula Barrett in the O40 race while Willie O’Riordan started his O65 career with a win in his race. David Butler collected a silver medal and a new PB (21:03) in the O35 5k and David Kissane also got a silver in his O65 event. Artur Nowak got a bronze in the O45 race (and PB 18:58) and the club’s masters men team were awarded silver medals in the team race with the above athletes scoring well. Results HERE.
In the Westport marathon, Cathy Flynn had another super run, knocking 6 mins off her pb with a time of 4 hours 39 mins for the 26 miles 385 yards.
In other activities, a host of the club’s athletes participated in parkruns in Tralee and Listowel with Pádraig Regan and Gerald O’Carroll leading home the field of 332 on Saturday morning and Gerald breaking the 20 minute barrier for the first time. Juveniles also ran in Tralee and Shelbourne junior parkruns.
Training continues on Tuesday nights in Ardfert Community Centre with strength and conditioning for U12 to U16 juveniles from 7pm till 8pm and non-members are welcome at these sessions. Adult sessions continue from 8pm till 9pm and again non-club members are very welcome. On Wednesdays, training for juveniles aged 7 to 12 takes place in the Community Centre from 6.30pm to 8pm, while u12's to u19's takes place from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in Ardfert Sportsfield. On Thursday nights at 7pm there is the adult fartlek session at Tralee Marina. Non-club members are welcome.
The Munster road championships take place on this Sunday in Dundrum, Co Tipperary at 1pm and the Munster schools indoor games will be held in Nenagh on Tuesday next, March 5th.
