On Sunday, 22 January 2017, St.Brendan's AC went once again on the bus to Nenagh for Munster Juveniles Indoor Relays. We had 16 athletes who travelled and we were able to compete in 3 boys relays (U10, U11, U12) and one girls relay (U12).
There were huge numbers of relays from all over Munster with some large clubs having
2 relays in each of the age categories. It was good to see other Kingdom clubs competing on the day - An Riocht AC and Lios Tuathail AC.
We did not qualify for finals on this occasion but our young athletes performed to the best of their ability and enjoyed this team event.
Boys U10 (Brody Leen, Matthew O'Sullivan, Eoin Malik & Darragh O'Flaherty) were the first of St.Brendan's AC teams to compete but the finishing time in the heat was outside of qualifying time for the final.
Next up Girls U12
(Katelyn Leen, Ellie O'Connor, Dara McElligott & Lilly Nowak) were placed in the heat with very strong Leevale AC & Dooneen AC relays and also finished outside qualifying time for the final. This was Dara's official debut in St.Brendan's AC singlet only starting training 2 weeks ago.
Last race before the break for lunch was the turn of the Boys U12 (Liam Og O'Connor, Tom O'Flaherty, Shane O'Connor & Peter O'Mahony). For the 3rd time St.Brendan's AC was starting from lane 1 and had to chase for the rest of the race. Despite a flawless baton exchange we did not qualify for the final. Special mention to Peter who stepped up to U12 category to compete in this relay.
Last of our relays on the day was Boys U11 (Zach Walshe, Eoin O'Flaherty, Aaron Horgan & Thomas O'Connor). This time we were placed in lane 3 and it was a much better performance from the boys with baton exchange moving smoothly in all 3 zones. Boys did battle to the end but once again it was not enough to qualify for the final. Well done to Thomas on his first relay competition and also stepping up to older age category to field the team.
This was a good day of competition and the club would like to thank all the young athletes for their commitment and team spirit and thanks to the parent for supporting and encouraging the sporting development of these children.
