St. Brendan’s AC
had another successful turnout for their sixth annual Banna 10km and 5km fun
run. The rain held off but the wind
proved to be quite blustery along the route.
However numbers were very consistent on previous years with many
enjoying the flat route and scenic views of Banna and the surrounding Ardfert
area. The first man home and winner of
the Tom O’ Riordan perpetual trophy was Donal O’ Callaghan Ríocht AC, this was
Donal’s second year in a row winning the 10km section of the race. However he faced stiff competition from
second place runner Michael O’ Regan, Tralee.
In the women’s 10km last year’s second place female Ann Marie Holland
from Cork came home in first position with local girl Anna-Meria Costelloe,
Kilmoyley coming home in second place. In
the men’s 5km Cillian Tierney came home in a blistering 17.06 with his sister
Ciara taking second in the women’s with Sasha Brent winning that 5km just ahead
of her. Thank you to the many volunteers
along the route and to both Louis Byrne and Total Produce. It was great to see so much local support for
the race including club president Patrick O’ Riordan & his brother Willie
who came from Cork to support it.
