Throws Workshop Templemore and S&C Workshop Cork IT

- Sunday April 22nd: Shot & Javelin Workshop at Templemore Track Co Tipperary (10.30am-12.30pm for begginers & 1pm-3pm for advanced athletes/coaches). The cost is €5 payable on the day at registration 10am-10.30am. Dave Sweeney National Throws Director will be taking the session and it is open to all athletes/coaches aged 13+.

- Tuesday April 24th: Strength & Conditioning Workshop at Cork IT Track (Upsatirs in red brick building next to track stand) from 7-9pm. This workshop will be run by Gordon Brett from Munster Rugby and will focus on athlete development & injury prevention through functional screening. The workshop costs €5 payable on the night from registration between 6.40-6.55pm and is open to all athletes/coaches aged 15+.

Also the discus/hammer workshop planned for Saturday 26th May will now take place on Sunday 27th May in Templemore Co Tipperary.

This competition took place last weekend 14th & 15th April 2012. On
Saturday the Junior & Senior athletes were competing. Úna Marley & Katie O’ Riordan tied for 2nd place in the senior women’s pole vault. Luke O’ Keeffe placed 2nd in the senior men’s
800m, PJ Galvin also came 2nd in the senior men‘s high jump & David Hogan came 3rd in the senior men’s 200m. Well done to athletes who competed on Saturday & a thank you to Deirdre for driving & supporting the athletes in Cork on Saturday!

On Sunday the Juvenile athletes competed. Darragh Courtney u12 placed 2nd in the high jump & for his first time competing in the shot putt competition he also came 2nd with a throw of 7.78m. Cian MacGarry u16 came 2nd in the 100m hurdles & he was 2nd also in the long jump u17. Eoghan McElligott u14 was 3rd in the high jump. It was a very long day of competition, not finishing until the evening time so many thanks to the parents & coaches who travelled on this day! Well done to the athletes who competed also.

- Mon April 16th: Fit4Life Leader Workshop at Beaufort Hall, Beaufort Co Kerry from 7-9pm. This is open to all Fit4Life leaders and those interested in becoming leaders. The workshop is free with registration at 6.45pm sharp.

- Sat April 21st: Munster Squad Day at Cork IT (See details below and note time changes)

- Wed May 2nd: High Jump Workshop at the Dr Pat O Callaghan Sports Complex Track in Clonmel Co Tipperary from 7-9pm. The session is open to all athletes/coaches aged 12+ and the cost is €5 payable at registration from 6.40pm-6.55pm.
- Tue May 8th: Fit4Life Leader Workshop in Limerick (Venue TBC) from 6.30pm-8.30pm. This is open to all Fit4Life leaders and those interested in becoming leaders. The workshop is free with registration at 6.15pm sharp.
- Wed May 9th: Triple Jump Workshop at the Dr Pat O Callaghan Sports Complex Track in Clonmel Co Tipperary from 7-9pm. The session is open to all athletes/coaches aged 12+ and the cost is €5 payable at registration from 6.40pm-6.55pm.
- Thur May 10th: Fit4Life Leader Workshop at the Civic Offices, Friar Street, Cashel Co Tipperary from 7pm-9pm. This is open to all Fit4Life leaders and those interested in becoming leaders. The workshop is free with registration at 6.45pm sharp.

A reminder the last remaining Munster Squad Day takes place on Saturday 21st April at Cork IT

Both the Development Squad session and the Performance Squad session will run together from 10am-1pm. The Development Squad session is open to all registered club athletes in Munster born 1998 (u14)-1993 (u20). Registration starts at 9.45am and the cost is 5 Euro. Again this is an open session and all are welcome. The Performance Squad register at 9.45am also and this is ONLY open to the 85 selected athletes born 1996-1992. All personal coaches are also encouraged to attend with their athletes. Powerade will be attending on the day doing some hydration testing with the athletes and squad gear should be available also on the day for the Performance squad athletes. International athlete Kelly Proper will also be in attendance.

Please inform all athletes/coaches in your clubs about these workshops/squad sessions/courses and pass on to anyone that may be interested. Better attendance at workshops ensures more workshops in the future so please encourage athletes & coaches to attend.

Ballyheigue & Ballybunion Road Races 2012

Busy Road Racing month started with Ballyheigue 10K with 97 runners/joggers taking part.
This was ideal preparation for Ballybunion Half Marathon as both courses are challenging (a bit "hilly").
Overall winner of the race was Willie Reidy in time of 37:00. St.Brendan's AC results:
Artur Nowak - 47:39 (28th), Pat Sheehy(F4L) - 50:38 (42nd), Paudie Dineen(F4L) - 51:21 (49th).

A week later the same trio of runners plus Dermot (recovering from injury) came back for more punishment, this time in Half Marathon distance in Ballybunion. Weather condition was almost perfect with many runners achieving better then expected results for this race.
This year there was over one thousand participants (687 in 10K & 378 in HM) and winners of 10K was Tim O'Connor in 34:19, first lady was Gena Cotter in 39:35.
Half Marathon winner was James Doran (An Riocht) in 1:14:16, lady winner was Caroline Walsh in time of 1:22:22.

Artur Nowak - 1:47:42 (123th), Pat Sheehy(F4L) - 1:55:37 (191st), Paudie Dineen(F4L) - 1:59:37 (231st), Dermot Dillane(F4L) - 2:01:04 (257th).

KERRY Open Track&Field 2012

Kerry Open Easter Meet on Good Friday 6th April starting at 4pm. The programme can be found on kerryathletics.com. It would be great to have big numbers so please support if at all possible. It caters for senior and junior athletes.
